When is the best time to paint a house in the Algarve?

Why “summer is best” is too simple

Faro’s long-term climate records show warm, dry summers and wetter cooler months, but averages do not describe the wall on the day of application. A south-facing façade can become much hotter than the air, while coastal humidity, wind or overnight condensation can change drying conditions.

A reliable plan therefore follows the forecast, the surface temperature and the technical sheet of the selected coating. The whole sequence matters: cleaning, repairs, primer and finish all need suitable drying time.

A good exterior-painting window

Look for several stable days rather than one perfect afternoon. The surface should be dry, firm and free of dust, salts, algae and loose coating before a compatible system is applied.

• No rain during application and the required drying period
• Manageable wind, especially for exposed façades
• No intense direct sun on a very hot wall
• Enough time between cleaning, repairs, primer and finish coats

Can the interior be painted at any time of year?

Usually, yes. Interior painting is much less dependent on outdoor seasons. The practical questions are ventilation, indoor humidity, occupancy and whether furniture and floors can be protected without slowing the work.

In winter, drying can take longer in closed or damp rooms. In summer, air-conditioning and very fast drying can also affect application. The aim is a controlled room, not the warmest possible room.

How to schedule without guessing

Start with photographs of every elevation, close-ups of cracks or peeling, and the access route. A remote review can identify the likely system and scope; the final start date should remain conditional on the short-range forecast and the product selected.

• Photograph shaded and sun-exposed sides
• Mention moisture, salt deposits or recurring mould
• State whether the colour is changing
• Allow contingency days instead of forcing the finish before rain
